About
My name is Sasha Netzach Agarunov, I am a filmmaker, a former Torah and cinema teacher, and a laureate of the Ophir Prize (the Israeli Academy Awards).
But these titles are only part of the story.
Ever since my days as a film student, a drive has burned within me to find a new artistic language; to create a revolutionary Israeli creation unlike any other, to establish an 'Israeli New Wave'. This drive led me on a life's journey to the extremes.
My passion for cinema was so strong that when I became homeless, I slept in the school's editing rooms. On the night I stood on a glittering stage to receive the Ophir Prize, I went back to sleep in a homeless shelter in Jerusalem, among drug addicts and alcoholics.
It was precisely there, in the lowest and highest of places, between despair and hope, that I understood the cinematic language I had learned was not enough. I felt a thirst for a different language, one that could contain this complexity. A language capable of connecting the sacred and the mundane, matter and spirit—a modern, revolutionary, prophetic language.
'Pre-Prophetic Cinema' was born out of this long search. It is a call to renew our essence, the original Israeli talent whose roots grow from the Hebrew prophetic culture—not to escape from reality, but to create from it a new, redemptive reality.
This website is an invitation to a journey. For every creator who feels that same thirst.
And here I call out to all creators, secular and religious alike, to feel that this is your stage. To take an active part in the discourse and the creation, to join the journey, to make an impact, and to generate together a new body of knowledge and art unlike anything else—Israeli, Jewish, and universal.
